On Thursday the U.S. Senate will vote to confirm Judge Amul Thapar's nomination to the Sixth Circuit, the Lexington Herald-Leader reports the vote has been scheduled, Senate To Vote on Kentucky Judge's Appeals Court Nomination. Judge Thapar will be confirmed, although it is likely that a number of Senate Democrats will vote against his nomination, as a well-grounded protest to Senator McConnell's obstruction of President Obama's judicial nominations from 2014 on, Senate Republicans Are Breaking Records for Judicial Obstruction.
But those are side issues. Judge Thapar will be an excellent addition to the Sixth Circuit and can be expected to serve with substantial distinction. I've previously lauded some of his rulings: Reprehensible Conduct and Punitive Damages: Judge Amul Thapar illustrates The Error by the Kentucky Court Of Appeals in the Trent DiGiurio Case and Federal Sentencing Guidelines: "Sometimes the Guidelines Are Conceptually Hard to Follow".
