Deaths in auto accidents and car wrecks in the United States last year were at the lowest level since 1949, despite the Americans driving some 21 million miles more in 2010 than sixty-one years earlier.
Gibson Vance, the President of the American Association for Justice, discusses the role of accountability and liability for auto makers in the civil justice system that has led directly to safer cars and fewer traffic deaths in an essay, "How Our Cars Got Safer," in the Washington Post.
Safety is everybody's responsibility, not only the driver but as well as the car makers and the pedestrians. There are many factors that contributes to car accidents one maybe faulty car engine, reckless driving or it could be incautious pedestrians. It is beneficial that American Association for Justice had thought for this kind of liabilities and accountability of car makers so that they will be pushed to create cars that promotes safety of its user.

Improvements in roadway and automobile designs have steadily reduced injury and death rates in all first world countries. The terms "active" and "passive" are simple but important terms in the world of automotive safety. "Active safety" is used to refer to technology assisting in the prevention of a crash and "passive safety" to components of the vehicle (primarily airbags, seatbelts and the physical structure of the vehicle) that help to protect occupants during a crash.

Aside from pulling out defective cars from the market, auto companies should learn how to minimize accidents by improving the features of their models. They should faithfully install safety features like air bags, sensors and no-flaw brake system. They also teach drivers about defensive driving and build safety centers for hands-on training sessions.
